Day 28 of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Today is the 28th day of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and 3 more days till my Birthday!!!

3 is the number of harmony.

I love the number 3. There’s the trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit communing in harmony. “A 3-fold cord is not easily broken.”

One definition of harmony is when people live and work well together. When people are on one accord.

In the black community, it’s very common to hear of being “disciplined” physically. This discipline would take the form of hitting, slapping, using a switch, cord or belt.

All of this would be in the guise of “love.”

“Love ain’t supposed to hurt”

I always think it’s interesting when people point to Jesus when hitting their children. Here, Jesus had disciples! The biggest part of the word! Disciples who he would teach. Not once in the bible do you see an instance where Jesus is laying hands on his disciples, in attempt to hurt them physically or shame them in order for them to learn. Jesus used His words. Primarily, parables. But still, many of us feel justified in beating our children.

Is it healthy to raise our children to believe that a love relationship involves physical pain?

It’s important for our words to be in harmony with our behavior.

If we love ourselves, our behavior should confirm that.

If we love others, our actions should show that.

After all, faith without works is dead.

Domestic Violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship, that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. Domestic Violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions, or threats of actions, that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone. https://www.domesticharmony.org/blank-page

I am thankful for the ability to have my thoughts live in harmony with my actions. I am thankful for domestic harmony. I am thankful that God gave me another chance. I could’ve been choked to death.

For my birthday, I’m asking that you would give to my Justice? Or… Just Me? Project. Every donation is tax deductible. It’s to support the work I’m doing to bring awareness to domestic violence. Books, plays, short films, social media content, stand up, speaking, teaching.

I want domestic violence to end.
